Windows 7 End-of-life

Microsoft will cease support of their Windows 7 operating system on January 14, 2020.  Due to security vulnerabilities, computers still running Windows 7 at that time will be taken off the University network.

  • If your Windows 7 computer is funded for replacement, those orders should be made now or in early fall.
  • If you do not have replacement funds, contact ITS Installs for a Windows 10 replacement computer – it will be a few years old.
  • If you need Windows 7 computers to remain on the network, send us the details – to be clear, there is no current solution, but we will take the need to ITS.

More information is here: Click-to-Run or via link off the baylor.edu/ITS site (keyword: click).

To reset Office Applications pins:

  • Go to Start Menu
  • Find the Application in the alphabetic listing
  • Right Click on the application name
  • Choose “Pin” to Taskbar
(If you don’t see this option, choose “More Items”)

SketchUp access

Q: Are the campus computers adequate to run the trial Sketch-up download?

A: Yep, our “standard” Baylor computer is actually quite a high-end model and will run most mainstream software. (The primary office computers are replaced every four years to keep them current!)

By the way, the full blown Sketch-up version is available at no cost for teachers. [LINK]

Classroom Doc Cam?

Q: Old Main 185 does not have a document camera, any chance we can get one?

A: Sure, we can look into this. Our full-featured doc-cam is the Wolfvision VZ-3
wolfvision vz3Its installation can prompt a huge re-wiring of the room – which takes some time to plan. OMAIN 185 is scheduled for an upgrade in summer 2017; we will see if we can move that up a year.

Most of our rooms have doc cams, but for those which do not, a quick option is to purchase a portable USB webcam. The $100 Ziggi  HD-Plus is a pretty low-end product, but may work for you.
