The words of this song were written by Edward Mote (1797-1874) and the chorus words and music are by Jonas Myrin, Reuben Morgan, and Eric Liljero. In 2011, Hillsong took the hymn “The Solid Rock” and added a chorus that produced an awesome praise song called Cornerstone. This song celebrates Christ as the Chief Cornerstone of our faith who shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins and access to eternal life. Again, it emphasizes that amid trials and tribulations, Jesus remains our anchor, hope, and stay.

In Nigeria, this song is used during the crusades, Lord’s Supper, and baptismal services. Also, it is used as a song of response after the sermon. Again, it is used as a choir rendition or ministration during a church service. It is also used as a song of celebration, assurance, and reminder of the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Lyrics

Verse 1
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus’ name

Chorus
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord, Lord of all

Verse 2
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

Verse 3
When he shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne
