A good number of Nigerian believers enjoy singing this hymn because of its message of hope. Though the hymn theologically is categorized as a hymn of resurrection (Easter), Nigerians love to sing it at wedding programme, as well as in burial programmes, and this thus happens especially if the deceased is not that advanced in age. The element of hope in the hymn at the stanza three and, in particular, the refrain says “And then one day I’ll cross the river, I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives. (the refrain) Because He lives I can face tomorrow, Because He lives all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future.  And life is worth the living just because He lives”. This section of the song draws so many emotions from the congregation when this hymn is being sung. 

Both young and older folks love singing this hymn whenever is being used in the worship service. And the hymn is often accompanied by a keyboard, drum set, guitar, and other instruments available.
