The hymn Blessed Assurance was penned by Fanny J. Crosby, a Christian songwriter. Born on March 24, 1820, she became blind at six weeks and for the 95 years of her life. She died in 1915. Over 8000 gospel songs are attributed to Fanny Crosby. She was a dedicated, happy Christian, teacher, and poet. Blessed Assurance depicts the joyful expectation and awe-inspiring glory of a Christian who is sure of his or her salvation in Christ. An insured Christian should do one thing: tell the story! The hymn is set to the tune, named ASSURANCE and composed by Phoebe Palmer Knapp. The fact that the composer was the wife of an Insurance Company owner is noteworthy. Like the usual human practice or need to ensure lives and property against loss, every person needs to ensure that their souls are intentionally covered in the Salvation Insurance that Christ offers.
Lyrics
1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour all the day long.
2. Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior, am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love
