May 2024 – Brooke Ashcraft (undergraduate student) was awarded the Achor Award for Outstanding Student in Psychology. Janine Malseed (undergraduate student) was awarded the Jim H. Patton Scholarship, which is awarded yearly to an outstanding junior in Neuroscience. Lauren Tanghongs was awarded the Outstanding Research Award in Psychology.
April 2024 – Jaslyn Van Lenten (undergraduate student) was named a McNair Scholar.
March 2024 – Dr. Adam O’Riordan (postdoctoral fellow) accepted a tenure track position at University of Texas San Antonio in the Department of Psychology
January 2024 – Sarah-Beth Garner joined the laboratory as a post-baccalaureate research assistant.
December 2023 – Alexandra Tyra (graduate student) successfully defended her PhD dissertation, “Emotion regulation and cardiovascular stress reactivity habituation: A comprehensive exploration using cross-sectional and experimental approaches,” with a unanimous “pass with distinction” vote from committee members. Within the same 24 hours, Alex received news that she had successfully passed her MSc by Research in Sport, Exercise, and Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Birmingham (part of her Fulbright Award Year). What an impressive day for Alex!
August 2023 – Taryn Cook joined the laboratory as a graduate student. Taryn was an undergraduate Research Assistant in the laboratory and most recently completed post-baccalaureate training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
August 2023 – Dr. Thomas Ritz (PI) and Dr. Ginty (Co-I) were awarded an R33 Research Project Grant from the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health for the project “Beetroot juice supplement for boosting mucosal immunity – The NO study.”
July 2023 – Dr. Annie Ginty and Dr. Neha John-Henderson (Montana State University; multiple PIs) were awarded an R01 Research Project Grant from the National Institutes of Health/National, Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for the project “Trauma and cardiometabolic health in an American Indian Community).”
June 2023 – Dr. Siobhan Griffin (postdoctoral fellow) officially arrives at Baylor University for the start of her Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Global Fellowship.
May 2023 – Elkan Gbadebo (undergraduate student) was awarded the Most Outstanding Service in Neuroscience, Bailey Devin (undergraduate student) was awarded the Most Outstanding Service in Psychology and the Achor Scholarship, and Briana Bates (undergraduate student) was awarded the Most Outstanding in Research.
April 2023 – Sanjana Ade (undergraduate student) was named a Fulbright ETA and will be based in Colombia. Gavin Dunn and Felise Bressler (undergraduate students) were both named McNair Scholars at Baylor University. The McNair program helps first-generation students and students from underrepresented populations prepare for applying to graduate school, specifically Ph.D. programs.
March 2023 – Spring time brought about numerous awards for both Alex Tyra (graduate student) and Dr. Annie Ginty. Alex received the Young Scholar Award from the American Psychosomatic Society for her abstract, “Examining the association between trait emotion regulation and cardiovascular responses to repeated acute psychological stress”. Dr. Annie Ginty was awarded three awards, specifically the 2023 Early Career Impact Award from the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences, the Peer Review Award from the Psychosomatic Medicine, and the Elizabeth Vardaman (“Betsy”) Award for Excellence in Research Leadership from Baylor University.
September 2022 – Alex Tyra (graduate student) officially started the Fulbright Scholar Program, which involves a yearlong academic visit to study in Birmingham, England and studying under Dr. Sarah Williams.
August 2022 – Dr. Adam O’Riordan (postdoctoral fellow) officially arrives at Baylor University for the start of his postdoctoral fellowship.
July 2022 – Adam O’Riordan successfully defends his PhD at the University of Limerick. Adam will begin his postdoctoral fellowship in the Baylor Behavioral Medicine Laboratory this August!
May 2022 – Kristen Giebel (undergraduate student) was awarded the Most Outstanding Student in Neuroscience award and the Hebl-Cherry award. Tiera Cleveland (undergraduate student) was awarded the Service Award from the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. Sanjana Ade (undergraduate student), Teni Adetona (undergraduate student), Kaylena Berles (undergraduate student), Taylor Burbank (undergraduate student), Julianna Forbess (undergraduate student), Kristen Giebel (undergraduate student), Hailey Gulbransen (undergraduate student), Taylor Shoraga (undergraduate student), and Anny Zheng (undergraduate student) received an Outstanding Poster award at URSA for their project entitled, “Alterations in Cardiovascular Responses to Stress Associated with Mental Imagery.”
April 2022 – Siobhán Griffin receives Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Global Fellowship, which will fund two years of postdoctoral work in the Baylor Behavioral Medicine Laboratory. Alexandra Tyra (graduate student) received a Fulbright Scholar Award to conduct research at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Luis Vega (undergraduate student) was named McNair Scholar.
November 2021 – Dr. Ginty receives Herbert Weiner Early Career Award from the American Psychosomatic Society.
September 2021 – Tiera Cleveland (undergraduate student) was named a Trailblazer Scholar.
June 2021 – Alexandra Tyra (graduate student) was named Solid Gold Neighbor Research Fellow
May 2021 – Samantha Soto (undergraduate student) was awarded the Outstanding Research Award from the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. Taryn Cook (undergraduate student) was awarded two prestigious awards, the Most Outstanding Student in Neuroscience award and Hebl-Cherry Award, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Ashley Bancroft (undergraduate student) was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Michelle Obiesie (undergraduate student) was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience and initiated into membership of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
April 2021 – The Baylor Behavioral Medicine Laboratory received a grant from URSA to fund undergraduate student research examining imagery and stress. Anny Zheng (undergraduate student) was named a McNair Scholar. Hannah Gruman and Akanksha Mishra ( undergraduate students) successfully defended their senior honors theses. Dr. Ginty was awarded the Elizabeth Vardamn (“Betsy”) Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduates.
December 2020 – Alexandra Tyra and Page Hurley (graduate students) received citation posters recognition at The American Psychosomatic Society Virtual Conference.
November 2020 – Jorawar Sandu (an undergraduate student) was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa.
May 2020 – Samantha Soto (undergraudtae student) was a recipient of the Jim H. Patton Scholarship in Neuroscience, which is awarded yearly to an outstanding junior in Neuroscience.
April 2020 – Taryn Cook and Samantha Soto (undergraduate students) each received URSA outstanding student presentation awards for their posters at the annual URSA Conference.
March 2020 – Thirteen undergraduate students and two graduate students had posters prepared to present at The American Psychosomatic Society! However, the conference was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
January 2020 – The Baylor Behavioral Medicine Laboratory was awarded an Allergan Foundation Grant to work with Boys & Girls Club to implement a high intensity interval training program.
November 2019 – Samantha Soto (undergraduate student) received the Presentation Award for Neuroscience at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students.
September 2019 – Samantha Soto, Akanksha Mishra, Avery Corneil, and Adeline Webb (undergraduarte students) presented their summer research projects at the McNair Conference hosted by Baylor University. August 2019 – Dr. Ginty was awarded a National Institutes of Health Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award (K01) from the National Institutes of Health.
