Now retired, Julia Courtney worked for the Open University as Research Fellow, Administrator and Lecturer, latterly in the Postgraduate Literature programme. Her PhD was on the Victorian novelist Charlotte M Yonge, and she has written on this author as well as Barbara Pym, Ivy Compton-Burnett and others, with articles in the Journal of William Morris Studies, the Tennyson Research Bulletin etc. Recent publications include a chapter on nineteenth century taxidermy in Paraphernalia! (Kingstone and Lister, Routledge, 2018). Julia is currently a contributing co-editor of an essay collection on Yonge under contract to Palgrave Macmillan.
