Harriet Newnes has recently completed a PhD in literature and science at Lancaster University. Her research examines the relationship between nineteenth-century evolutionary theory and methods of face reading. She is an associate lecturer at Lancaster and is currently preparing her monograph, Facing the Animal: Physiognomy and Pathognomy in the Long Nineteenth Century for publication with Cambridge University Press.
