Carlos Colón was born in El Salvador and holds degrees from Belmont University and Baylor University. His music and arrangements have been performed at festivals in the United States and abroad, including Carnegie Hall, Duke University, Princeton Seminary, Venezuelan National Radio, the United Nations, and Festival de Música Contemporánea of El Salvador. His music has also received acclaim in China, Cuba, and other countries.

Colón’s projects lie at the intersection of justice and religious transformation. His many compositions include  Requiem, Las Lamentaciones de Rufina Amaya (2008) and Obertura Para Un Mártir, written in memory of slain Archbishop Oscar Romero, commissioned by the President and First Lady of El Salvador in 2010.

Recent projects include:

• the soundtrack for a documentary film, “Lamento con Alas”, directed by Pilar Timpane, about the deaths of immigrants along the Texas-Mexico border. This film is featured online at the website of the Scientific American magazine, to accompany a feature on the identification of immigrant remains through DNA. See, https://vimeo.com/118193318
• A commission in 2018 from Archbishop Escobar Alas of El Salvador to commemorate the canonization of Saint Oscar Romero. Te Deum Latinoamericano was premiered in El Salvador in October of 2018 to audiences of more than 75,000 people.
• Composer, arranger, and editorial team member for GIA Music’s bilingual hymnal Santo, Santo, Santo / Holy, Holy, Holy.

Colón is Assistant Director of Worship and Chapel, at Baylor University and a Resident Scholar at Baylor Institute for the Studies of Religion.
