David Stenftenagel
Business Development Director
McKinstry

David Stenftenagel is the Business Development Director for McKinstry’s South Region Energy Projects business, where he leads a team of five account executives focused on expanding the company’s High-Performance Design Build offerings. David plays a central role in shaping go-to-market strategies, developing talent, and advancing the organization’s growth across the Southern U.S.

In his current role, David oversees sales strategy, opportunity development, forecasting, and pipeline management while coordinating closely with development and construction teams to support resource planning and project execution. He is heavily involved in coaching and mentoring his team, recruiting regional sales talent, participating in client meetings, and helping close complex deals that deliver exceptional customer value. David also engages with professional organizations and community groups to strengthen industry relationships and support local markets.

David began his career in the building technology and facilities industry at York International, where he served as a Sales Engineer and later as a Sales Manager for the North Texas HVAC products business. In these roles, he led sales of large, complex mechanical systems for hospitals, data centers, airports, sporting arenas, universities, and school districts. These experiences provided a strong technical foundation and affirmed his passion for consultative selling.

A graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Civil Engineering, David attributes one of his most formative experiences to an internship program that helped him discover his enthusiasm for sales. This early exposure set the stage for a career dedicated to combining technical expertise with relationship-driven business development.

Professionally, David considers his greatest accomplishment the opportunity to help his sales executives achieve their goals and grow into the professionals they aspire to be. Personally, he views his family, grounded in faith, as his greatest blessing.

David is actively involved with the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), an organization he values for its training, networking, and community engagement opportunities.

His advice to students is to gain as much hands-on experience as possible through internships or local jobs, keep their career options open, and remain endlessly curious.
