Student Feature: Robert McCandlish

Headshot of Robert McCandlish

Robert (Rob) McCandlish is Mr. Reliable. Rob has been a Resident Advisor at Penland Hall (a dormitory for primarily freshmen men) since his sophomore year of college. This is no feat to take lightly. Rob works as a mentor for more than 100 Baylor freshmen each year, and makes himself available to them 24/7. Adding to his reliable reputation, Rob has never missed a single class in his four years at Baylor. According to McCandlish, he “owes it to his professors to be present and engaged in class every single day.”

Rob did not become the reliable mentor and student that he is today alone, however. He received much help by being mentored by others. Jack Trimm, the director of Human Resources at Afflink, mentored Rob through the Baylor ProSales Mentor Program. Rob learned through this experience that practice always makes perfect in everything that he does. Rob’s relationship with Mr. Trimm has helped Rob paint a clear picture of his future career, and taught him to be very intentional when interacting with others. That’s what mentors do, they serve as a resource as you think things through.
