Baylor ProSales Announces Results of Baylor Business Capability Competition (BBCC)
Baylor’s Center for Professional Selling is excited to announce the winners for the 2024 Baylor Business Capability Competition (BBCC). This new competition means that ProSales offers five internal sales competitions per year, in which all ProSales students compete. In the BBCC, teams of ProSales students are poised for the next step after submitting a request for proposal (RFP). Told their team made“the short list” of companies being considered for a substantial consulting contract and that the potential client is pleased with the technical details provided in the RFP, teams were tasked with delivering a five-minute presentation on the strength of their team’s capabilities to:
(1) Work as a team
(2) Keep the client engaged and apprised of the work
(3) Manage the work effectively and efficiently
(4) Track the work processes relative to schedule and budgets
(5) Be a good partner
The BBCC engaged 130 students on 20 teams, with competition teams balanced by year (freshmen/sophomores, juniors, seniors) and gender. Team-level GPAs were normalized across teams. Participants competed in two rooms with 60+ judges per room, comprised of business executives from more than 30 companies and Baylor ProSales faculty. The top teams for this year’s BBCC include:
Cross Watson, Luke Holder, Tanner Moore, Lilly Beyer, Sam Horn, John Darrell (pictured here, in order)
According to team captain, Tanner Moore, “Preparing for the BBCC competition, my team leveraged our Student Showcase as an opportunity to show unity and start positioning ourselves as a team rather than just a group of individuals. With 48 hours to prepare, practice, and perform, we had to leverage every second. We came into the competition with a theme in mind and an understanding of our strengths, but with a last-minute pivot, we were able to tie the presentation together with culminated experiences. With three of my teammates entering their first Top Gun and ProSales competition, my priority was to instill in them how to be confident and have fun with the competition, and what better way to do that than to come out with a victory!”
Will McClelland, Camilla Brown, Andrew Tang, Taylor Gibson, Trey Walker, Ashleigh Stuck, Jonathan Buras (pictured here, in order)
Team captain Ashleigh Stuck noted, “I am so proud of this team’s ability to pivot inside of a busy week to be able to perform with excellence for the BBCC. Everyone’s individual ideas were reflected in our presentation which contributed to its unique style and execution. Our biggest strength was relaying our knowledge of each other’s capabilities by introducing each other during our presentation.”
Building out a systematic learning and development program for ProSales drives the faculty team to continue to innovate with this mission in mind. “We know that we must provide differentiated learning experiences for our students to be top performers when they leave Baylor and join an employer,” notes Dr. Andrea Dixon, the executive director of ProSales. “We added the BBCC to our suite of sales competitions to help students understand how their capabilities enhance and supplement those of their teammates.”
