Baylor’s Center for Professional Selling recently held their Baylor Business Selling Outside (BBSO) competition, designed to engage students in a realistic sales situation involving a face-to-face meeting with a business executive. Role plays are judged virtually by over 100 business executives from around the country, offering students a chance to gain valuable feedback from the Center for Professional Selling’s Corporate Partners. The 3M Corporation provided the financial and executive support for this competition as students “sold” a 3M medical product to a hospital system.

This year’s competition consisted of 93 competitors (individual and two-person-teams) who met face-to-face with 12 corporate buyers.

The top ten individual finishers included:

1. Emily Mertens
2. Emily McCandlish
3. Tyler Skelton
4. Josh Rocconi
5. Brody Hill
6. Alex Justus
7. Juliana Arrington
8. Victoria Whitworth
9. Jake Todd
10. Colton Wiseman

The BBSO allows Baylor students to see how they stack up against their peers and allows the center’s Corporate Partners to view Baylor talent as they prepare to enter the job market. In addition, top individual performers are awarded cash prizes.

“The 2019 BBSO was a spectacular event! It was exciting to come back to Baylor since graduating from the Professional Sales Program in 2012 to participate as a BBSO Buyer. The 3M product in the sales case, 3M Tegaderm CHG, is a product I sell personally. It was very encouraging to see the students take the sales case and run with it. We saw creative presentations from talented future salespeople. I know they all will be extremely successful when they enter the workforce, and hopefully working for 3M,” shared Madeline Giering, Account Representative, 3M Vascular and Wound Care Solutions.

“Developing this case in partnership with ProSales Alumnus, Madeline Giering, was fun. Madeline shared her product and market expertise allowing us to create a realistic scenario for student development,” stated Dr. Andrea Dixon, Executive Director of the Center for Professional Selling. “3M provides competition materials, executive buyers, and a large number of judges to support this sales competition. We value our on-going partnership with 3M.”
