Baylor’s Center for Professional Selling recently held their Baylor Business Selling Outside (BBSO) competition, which is designed to engage students in a realistic sales situation where they meet live with a business executive for a 20-minute sales encounter. Role plays are judged virtually by business executives from around the country, offering students a chance to gain valuable feedback from the Center for Professional Selling’s Corporate Partners. The 3M Corporation provided the financial and executive support for this competition as students “sold” a 3M product in the automotive market.

This year’s competition consisted of 80 individual competitors who met face-to-face with 12 corporate buyers. The top ten finishers included:

1. Reed Mitteness, junior
2. Branden MacKinnon, senior
3. Annah Smith, senior
4. Austin Newberry, senior
5. Shelby Stewart, junior
6. Cole Edmiston, senior
7. Nicole Lindsay, senior
8. Melanie Moore, junior
9. Scott Pratt, junior
10. Melanie Wyman, senior

The BBSO allows Baylor students to see how they stack up against their peers and allows the center’s Corporate Partners to view Baylor talent as they prepare to enter the job market. In addition, top performers are awarded cash prizes.

“We appreciate the generous support that 3M provides to Baylor’s Professional Selling program,” stated Dr. Andrea Dixon, Executive Director of the Center for Professional Selling. “3M’s leaders provide competition materials, executive buyers, and a large number of judges to support this student development program. What a blessing it is to have such a strong corporate partner for our program.”
