Professional Selling Students Gain Valuable Experience at National Team Selling Competition
Baylor Professional Selling students Teresa Dean, Jackson Hornbeak, Joseph Kropholler and Margaret Newton competed in the National Team Selling Competition at Indiana University October 29-30, 2015. The competitors served in various executive roles in team-based role plays during this competition.
“I had such an incredible learning experience at IU,” said Margaret Newton. “The competition taught me a lot about working with a team and the importance of knowing everyone’s role.”
Dr. Andrea Dixon, Executive Director of Baylor’s Center for Professional Selling served as Faculty Coach for the team. Professional Selling students Dustan Dendy, Matt Galvin and Ayana Taylor worked with the team as student coaches, and Kendall Danley and Tyler Warner served as apprentices. Baylor ProSales alumnus Madeline Giering served as the on-site coach.
Dixon shared that the team-based aspect of the competition allows for great student development, as a team consulting approach is often incorporated into real-life sales calls. “The IU NTSC is a wonderful competition as students operate as a team and engage multiple buyers,” Dixon said. The case offers a terrific level of complexity for student learning and growth.
“I learned so much through the experience and believe that it was the most beneficial thing I have done to prepare myself professionally,” said Hornbeak. “The National Team Selling Competition was an amazing experience for me to learn how to sell in a team environment.”
