Student Feature – Ben Watson
Ben Watson is privileged to have parents who serve as important role models. His parents have evoked important qualities in Ben that are evident in his practice of professional sales.
Ben learned from his father to be proactive in everything. Ben’s father works to make a difference in his community by volunteering through the church to teach 2nd-4th grade boys—an age range that most men are not willing to engage with on a regular basis. However, by investing in these boys at such a pivotal time in their lives, Ben’s father can see the impact of his mentoring over the long run. Ben learned by watching his father that he too can make an impact on the lives of others by consistently investing in relationships—a lesson that is important to know in professional sales.
Ben’s mother also played an important role in shaping Ben into the person that he is today. Standing by his mother’s side through her battle with breast cancer, Ben learned how to be persistent and determined. Ben’s mother taught him how to be still and trust in God through the difficult times. In sales, persistence is one of the most important qualities to have. Not every sales meeting will go as expected or result in a sale. However, persistence is the key to carrying on without becoming discouraged.
