Round Table: Personal Finance

Nov. 15 – 4pm – BSB A.202 or Zoom
Do you own a retirement account (of any type)?
Do you know what an HSA is and when to get one?
Do you have any sort of S&P500 or market wide tracking fund or ETF somewhere in one of those accounts?

If you said no to at least one of those questions, let’s not panic, but maybe a bit, just enough to mark Monday 4pm on your calendar because you’ll need that session!
BUPA is there for you! BUPA doesn’t want you working at 85, and in debt! You’ll thank BUPA later :p

The round table will be held as a hybrid Zoom/in-person meeting:
Room: BSB A.202

Or use the meeting ID: 892 7652 8760, and please check your emails for the password!

And yes, every year makes a difference, don’t postpone, just come on Monday!
And no, being a foreigner doesn’t give you a pass: if you are here for more than 6 months, you need this talk too!

Halloween Party

October 30 – starting at 6pm
BUPA is organizing a Halloween Party on October the 30th, starting at 6pm.
Don Hood has volunteered his backyard and fire pit to host us: thanks Don!!
Address is: 1039 Cardinal Drive, Waco

Family, +1, friends, etc. are welcome!
BUPA will provide grilled meat, lemonade and all one needs to make S’mores. Feel free to bring a side, a dessert or drinks, then dress up and come hang around the fire pit with us.

But please don’t let the lack of food to bring or costume to wear stop you. Just come either way: it’s all about meeting each other!

OPS Workshop Series

October 13 – 9-10am – Baylor Grants Databases + Crafting and Elevator Pitch
This workshop will be around two distinct topics: 1) Using the grants databases provided by Baylor to search for grants and set up automatic alerts of new opportunities and 2) Crafting an “elevator pitch” about your research. Blake Thomas, our OPS liaison, will present.

The workshop will be held as a hybrid Zoom/in-person:
Room: BSB A.202
Click here for the Zoom link
Or use the meeting ID: 892 7652 8760, and please check your emails for the password!

This is a series of workshops for postdocs. Future sessions will cover topics including (but not limited to) strategies for presenting your research in a persuasive way, fine-tuning your proposal for a particular sponsor, drafting a biographical sketch and more.
