Avery Voight ('23)

MiniPharma Team Leader/Synthesis Group Leader

I’m Avery Voight, a senior Biochemistry and Mathematics double major from Groves, Texas. I am on the pre-medicine track and intend to become a flight surgeon. As a hobby, I play music with friends and know, at an amateur level, a handful of instruments. I spend most of my free time hanging out with friends, playing video games, and reading books. My favorite restaurant in Waco has been Cricket’s, but you can never go wrong with Fuego’s tacos.

David Alvarez ('23)

Hi, my name is David Alvarez. I am a senior Baylor Business Fellow and finance major, with a minor in biochemistry. The fall of 2021 will be my first semester as a member of the MiniPharma program! My role will be within the modeling team to dock Pateamine A derivatives to optimize its binding capabilities to the eIF4A complex. The dream for the future post undergraduate will be either medical school or an MSTP program. I enjoy meeting new people, if climbing, fishing, or coffee is your thing, let’s talk.

Matthew Ho ('23)

Hi! My name is Matthew Ho and I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Japanese on the pre-med track. I am from Irvine, California and love to go visit the beach. In my free time, I also like to cook recipes from around the world, longboard, and read books in Japanese. In Waco, I love to study at Pinewood Coffee or grab a meal with friends at Helberg Barbeque! I will be spending my last semester studying abroad at Seinan Gakuin University in Fukuoka, Japan, and hope to attend medical school after!

Tiffany Lee ('23)

Hi, my name is Tiffany Lee and I am a senior Biochemistry major on the pre-medical track! I am originally from South Korea, but I grew up mainly around the Houston area. In my free time, I like to explore new restaurants and cafes with friends. I also enjoy trying local coffee roasteries and make espresso at home. The restaurant Milo All Day is one of my favorites in Waco, but the Chili’s 3 for $10 deal never fails me. I am delighted and honored to be a part of the modeling team for this program!

Nick Baldetti ('22)

Synthesis Group

I’m currently a senior Biochemistry Major with a minor in Biology, and I’m set to graduate in May 2022. I am originally from Walnut Creek, California. I am involved with the Baylor Army ROTC program (not Airforce ROTC) and I’m a MSIV CDT within the program. My career goal is to become an Army Dentist. My interests/hobbies include hiking, backpacking, skiing, watching/playing football, weightlifting, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Tai kickboxing. My favorite restaurant in Waco is Ninfa’s. Nick is currently pursuing dentistry at Texas A&M College of Denistry.

Saawan Patel ('22)

Biology Group

Saawan is a Business Fellows and Management major, with pre-med ambitions. His interest lie in gaining experience so that he may continue doing research in a clinical setting. Saawan joins the Taube lab with experience from MD Anderson’s cytogenetics department under Dr. Multani and Dr. Pathak. He is now at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dara Love ('21)

MiniPharma Team Leader / Synthesis Group Leader

My name is Dara Love. I am a senior pursuing a Biochemistry degree with a minor in Biology. I’ve worked on the MiniPharma team since the fall of 2019 on multiple projects in a few different capacities; I started on the computational team on the Gracilin project. I now do synthetic work on the Pateamine A project. She now works for the NIH, and will later apply to research-focused medical schools. I’m from Wichita, KS, and while there’s no place like home, I love Texas. I practice partner swing and country dances whenever possible. I also love hiking and running with my dog, Sadie. She is now at the NIH as a result of her Post-Baccalaureate Intramural Training Award
