About Us

Who are we?

  • We are the Language Impairment and Down Syndrome (LIDS) laboratory. We are a part of the Communication Sciences and Disorders department at Baylor University.

What do we do?

  • Our research focuses primarily on language and literacy development in (a) children with primary language impairment and(b) children and young adults with Down syndrome. We focus on increasing the field of speech pathology’s understanding of language and literacy profiles and improving language and literacy outcomes for these clinical populations.

What is our mission?

  • To conduct and disseminate clinically meaningful research that makes an impact in our community and beyond. To accomplish this mission, we engage stakeholders, ask important questions, conduct rigorous research, translate findings from research to practice, and mentor future generations.
