Professor of Biology
My research interests involve the interactions between microorganisms and their chemical environment, with a particular interest in the photosynthetic and heterotrophic microbes in lake ecosystems.

Caleb Robbins
Postdoctoral Fellow
Caleb studies how the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in freshwater ecosystems is linked to watersheds, and how that cycling influences aquatic life and water quality. He is especially interested in food webs and secondary production, terrestrial carbon fate, aquatic-terrestrial linkages, decomposition, and greenhouse gas cycling. Caleb’s research currently involves applying basic aquatic ecology to water quality modeling and forecasting, working with regional water utilities to implement actionable science.

Jingyu Wang
Ph.D. Candidate
Jingyu studies the colorful part of cyanobacteria and other phytoplankton, their pigments. More specifically, I am interested in how those pigments help cyanobacteria dominate in varied environments. I am also interested in developing and applying mathematical models to predict phytoplankton growth rates and to offer scientific tools to protect our lakes/reservoirs from harmful algal blooms.
