For many years I taught at Penn State University, and living in that state inevitably drew me to the region’s very rich history. Recently, I did a study of slavery in that state as it existed in the early national period.
I won’t list all my relevant publications here, but I include links to some ongoing projects – one on the state’s religious history, another on Philadelphia’s role as a center for occult and esoteric thought.
I will also include some articles or conference papers that never reached publication, namely:
1998 The Politics of Civil Defense in Pennsylvania 1940-1960
2000 Terrorism as Heritage: How the Molly Maguires Became a Tourist Attraction
2000 Disease and Racial Frontiers in Charles Brockden Brown’s Philadelphia
