Bio

Dr. Pedro M. Reyes received his Ph.D. in Management Science (2002), an MBA in Operations Management (1999), an MS in Information Systems (1999), and a BS in Mathematics (1995) from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). He is an associate professor of operations and supply chain management in the Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University and serves as an associate editor for Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education. Before Baylor University, Dr. Reyes taught at the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management and the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Reyes currently teaches an MBA course in operations and supply chain management and an online MBA course in global supply chain strategy. Other courses taught include undergraduate courses in global supply chain management, applied supply chain analytics, quality management, procurement & materials management, an introduction to statistics, business logistics, operations management, and project management. Dr. Reyes is a 2020 recipient of the Elizabeth Vardaman Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduates. He is an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand (2019), received the Hankamer School of Business Young Researcher Award (2005), and was recognized by the UTA College of Business as a Lawrence Schkade Research Fellow (2002). He is a member of the Decision Science Institute and the founder and former director of the Center of Excellence in Supply Chain Management at Baylor University.

Dr. Reyes’ research interests consist of designing global supply chain operations planning and control systems. He has been actively researching the use of RFID (radio frequency identification) as an information communication technology for the integration of upstream to downstream global supply chain operations. During the past few years, his research has extended to Industry 4.0 in global supply chains and the amalgamation of technologies that include the use of RFID, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and machine learning, additive manufacturing, and Blockchain.

Dr. Reyes has more than 100 academic and professional presentations, including international presentations in New Zealand, China, Indonesia, Spain, France, Mexico, Canada, and Argentina. His research has been published or accepted in journals such as IEEE Engineering Management Review, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, Production & Inventory Management Journal, Applied Mathematics and Computation, International Journal of Integrated Supply Management, and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, among others. He is also the author of Global Supply Chain Strategy (Hercher Publishing Inc.), Global Supply Chain Management (Hercher Publishing Inc.), and RFID in the Supply Chain (McGraw-Hill).

Dr. Reyes has consulted and served as an expert witness. Consulting projects include project management, data scientist, and content expert for global supply chain management & management of technologies (RFID, IoT, Industry 4.0, and Blockchain). His international consulting resulted as the Latin Americas Project Leader for the Delta Airlines RFID implementation project.

Before his academic career, Dr. Reyes worked for over 25 years in Operations & Supply Chain Management industry experience in the Greater Dallas area. His professional roles include Global Supply Chain Coordinator, Materials Manager, Production Manager, Production and Inventory Control Manager, Quality Facilitator, Fulfillment Supervisor, and General Manager.
