Why are there so many species?

In the Danley Lab, we try to answer this question using a number of methods and in a variety of freshwater fish systems. We use biogeographic methods to study the distribution of genetic and phenotypic diversity.  We use ecological methods to study the composition of species rich communities. We use quantitative genetic and genomic methods to understand the relationship between genotype and complex phenotypic systems.  Through these studies, we hope to gain better understanding of the factors contributing to the origin and maintenance of biological diversity.
